Over 100 Years of History Serving New York City Bakeries
A strong work ethic and a passion for customer-focused service have been at the heart of our Valente culture since our founding in Maspeth, NY in 1909.
More than 115 years later, these values are still alive and well and integral to our brand. Today, they also merge with the innovation and technology our company has instituted to make Valente a leading full-line ingredient and organic and natural food product distributor in the New York tri-state area.
Valente Bakery Supplies of New York has grown from a single-product yeast supplier to offer more than 1,500 ingredients to high-end New York-based bakeries, food and grocery establishments, and markets. Despite Valente’s growth, still, our company and its dedicated employees have retained the values of our founder Dominico Valente. Dominico’s grandsons, Dominic and Salvatore, served at the helm of our company in the 1970’s, and Dominic is a member of our current senior management team.
GROWTH AND CHANGE
The company’s product offerings expanded in 1977 under the Valente brothers’ leadership. A significant turning point came about in 2010 when Bob Chory and Tom Siegenthaler, long-time Valente employees, became partners.
Their partnership led to the asset acquisition of Valente competitor R.E. Diamond and Company, a Brooklyn, NY-based firm. This strategic acquisition enabled Valente to become a leader in the organic and natural product distribution market in New York City. It also opened the door to new product lines, new customers and increased distribution rights throughout NYC and the tri-state area.
Our customers tell us all the time what a big help our guidance is, especially because they can go to market much more quickly!
TECHNOLOGY AND PROCESS IMPROVEMENT
Valente’s expansion resulted in a ramped up focus on food safety. This deepened the company’s commitment to sourcing the finest baking ingredients from national names. With an eye to ingredient supply chain integrity, Bob and Tom instituted Good Distribution Practices (GDP) and implemented the processes and technology to provide food compliance documentation and third-party audits that support GDP. Certificates of Analysis (CoA’s), kosher certificates, and specification sheets are all a part of this process and are continually updated in Valente’s database. We are proud to call ourselves New York’s premier distributor of kosher baking ingredients.
Our expert staff uses hand-held scanners to track every item and lot code for ongoing traceability of the company’s distributed items. And sensors installed in Valente’s large refrigeration and freezer units monitor temperature of ingredients to ensure the quality and freshness of all temperature freshness and other distributed ingredients is continuously maintained.
This blended emphasis on hard work, service excellence and innovation will enable us to continue our success story as New York’s premier bakery supply company.
